Cajalco Expansion Project

Expanding Cajalco Through Lake Mathews

The Cajalco Expansion Project will be a 4 lane road with a 2 lane island for future development. The county needs to approve a new plan before 2014 or the mid-county parkway will come back on the table.

If you have a concern with the project and how it will affect our area or simply wish to comment on it, please fill out the form below. They must legally address any concerns in the Environmental Impact Report (EIR). So make sure when you voice your concern, state that it should be addressed in the 'EIR' if it something that you feel needs to be.

A copy of your email will be sent to Cheryl Donahue (Public Relations), Mary Zambon (Environmental Lead), you will receive a copy and a copy will be sent to RAGLM as well. We will keep the comments on file just to hold the department accountable and make sure they address all submited comments or issues.

On its face, proposal 1 appears to be the logical best selection. The hairpin curve on the west end could be very dangerous. The total cost is likely to be less since there would be less land to acquire. Far less "critical" habitat would be taken. And finally, there would be less disruption, dust and noise to those living in Gavilan Hills during construction. But why should I care? I doubt the state, county or feds will have enough money to fund development during my lifetime.

Please take a look at the two proposals above and notice the difference. Proposal 1 stays on the existing Cajalco route while Proposal 2 goes through preserve land, is a longer stretch of road, is much more dangerous and more expensive to construct. But you can not discount the fact that Proposal 2 would make it go through a nice wide open area right next to the lake. To me, this looks like the birth of the City of Lake Mathews. That is the perfect area to develop a new city by the lake to me.
